Randy Ward interviews ASCS Lone Star Region Sprint winner #11C Matt Covington
Starting on pole, Matt Covington took off as the green flag dropped on the 25-lap ASCS
A main and never looked back.
On the restart, Covington pulled away from outside front row starter George White and quickly built his lead. The restart after a caution for a spin after lap 10 was the only time the second and third place cars were close to Covington for the resto of the race. He took the checkerd flag with near straight away advantage.
17th starting Martin Edwards had climbed through the field and was fourth on the lap 11 restart. He third running White on the next lap, and past second running Claude Estes a lap later. Edwards and Estes battled for the spot for the next 10 laps, swapping position a couple times in the battle. As they worked through lapped traffic, Edwards firmly claimed the spot with Estes third at the finish.
Justin Melton, Seth Bergman and Robert Byrom claimed the heat wins. Shawn Mize flipped in the third heat, but was able to start the A main.
USA Limited Modifieds Feature Winner #81B Cody Simpson
as the race finally got going. Jason Troutman ran side by side with Simpson for several laps before dropping out. Jimmy Staats came up to take second at the finsh with Chris Cleveland third. Troutman, Brian Bolden and Steve Sickels won the heats.

Two time winner Johnny Philpot, Jr. ran second and battled with Tom Lorenz for several laps, but fell back. Lorenz was able to hold second to the checkered flag. Max Eddie Thomas came back from an opening lap tangle to finish third. Philpot and Ellis won the late model heats.
USA Modifieds Feature Winner #81 Danny Caldwell
Danny Caldwell won his second straight USA Modified main - but this week he led only one lap - the last one.
Trent Dorman beat Caldwell on the orignal start, and two restarts for early cautions. The pair raced near side by side for most of the race with Cladwell getting past on the final circuit. Third behind Dorman was Rick McCommas. Gary Corbin and McCommas won the heat races.
Cody Simpson started the USA Limited Modified main on the outside of the front row. It looked to be a long night as the caution flew for multi-car wrecks four times in the first three laps. Simpson avoided damage and pulled away
Patrik Daniel seemed to be the only Late Model driver not to experience any problems Saturday night. He moved up to the outside front row starting spot after Darren Ellis was unable to start the race. When the green flag dropped on the feature, Daniel took off and was never challenged.
Harry Hronas also won his second straight feature, in the Street Stocks, and led only two laps.
Scott Prather led the first five laps before Robert Byram took the lead. Hronas battled Byram for several laps before smoke poured from under the #12X and Byram pulled out.
Hronas took the feature win along with his victory in the street stock heat.
