As they entered the first turn on the 12th lap right on the back bumper of slower cars, Suggs tried to go high, and the lapped car drifted high. Shoulders went low and claimed the lead. A lap later the caution flew as the #41 of Danny Merrell stopped at the top of turn two with an engine fire.

On the restart, Shoulders had not trouble staying out front to take the victory ahead of Suggs. Tenth starting Jerry Hammock had worked up to be on Shoulders bumper on the 12th lap, but had to settle for third at the checkers.
