Covington Takes Season Second ASCS Sprints Victory at Devil's Bowl

Mesquite, TX (May 19) - Matt Covington took the lead and the victory as the ASCS Lone Star Region battled the ASCS Sooner Region at Devil's Bowl Speedway Saturday night.

Trent Dorman put the Richard Murray's #8 street stock in the winner's circle in his first run in the car. Patrik Daniel won his second late models victory this season. Jimmy Staats also claimed his second feature win of 2012 in the USA Limited Modifieds. Danny Caldwell maintained his perfect record in the USA Modifieds - four wins in four features this year.

Danny Jennings paced the ASCS feature from the start. Zach Chappell moved up to challenge Jennings. Just past the halfway mark, Chappell dove deep to try to get under Jennings going into turn one. They made contact and Chappell spun, but was able to keep going. However the yellow had flown. Chappell caught up with Jennings on the front straight and expressed his displeasure with Jennings by crashing into his car. With both cars now too badly damaged to continue, Jennings discussed the incidents with Chappell, heatedly on the front straight.

Covington had climbed to third when the altercation happened. Restarting out front, Covington easily pulled away on a clear track and took the checkered flag ahead of Joe Wood, Jr. and Kevin Ramey.

Evan Pardo, Covington, Koby Barksdale and Shane Sellers claimed the heat wins. Dale Wester charged to the front to win the B main.

Simpson and Staats, the 2011 Champion, are just 120 points apart in the very competitive limited modified division. Wesp, Tim Simmons and Richard Strain won the heat races.

Mike Meeks, Jr. provided the most excitement in the feature when he jumped the wheel of another car and flipped on the front straight. He was okay, just unhappy.

Danny Caldwell claimed his fourth feature win in the USA Modifieds, in four races this year. Caldwell led flag to flag ahead of Tony Staats and Trent Dorman. Staats and Dorman won the heat races.

Jimmy Staats claimed his second USA Limited Modified feature win of the season ahead of points leader Colby Simpson, with Brad Wesp third.

Patrik Daniel had to chase Danny Caldwell for eight laps until he could make the pass and take the lead of the Late Model main. Darren Ellis was also able to get past Caldwell, but had to settle for second at the checkered flag.

Trent Dorman took over the wheel of #8 Street Stock for the night, and drove to victory in the heat and the feature. Kyle Money and James Shaw, Jr. finished second and third.
