Rilat Charges to ASCS Sprints Shootout Victory at Devil's Bowl

Mesquite, TX (June 2) - Travis Rilat charged from the outside fourth row to win the ASCS Lone Star Region vs Sooner Region Shootout at Devil's Bowl Speedway Saturday night.

Jimmy Staats survived a USA Limited Modified demolition derby for his third win of the season. Danny Caldwell continued his quest to sweep the USA Modifieds this season with his fifth straight win. Tom Lorenz topped the Late Models for the first time this year.

ASCS Sprints winner Travis Rilat is interviewed by ASCS
announcer Randy Ward

A charge is the only way to describe Travis Rilat's ASCS Sprint victory Saturday night. After starting outside the fourth row, Rilat immediately moved to third behind early leader Danny Jennings and Andy Shouse. One a sixth lap restart after Michelle Decker's flip, Shouse dove under Jennings in turn one for the lead. Rilat lost a couple spots on that restart, but came flying back. He retook third on the 14th lap and two laps later he flew into turn one to make the battle three wide as he passed both Jennings and Shouse.

With the lead, Rilat pulled way to take the checkered flag with a comfortable margin. Shouse finished second with Jennings third.

Rilat, Jennings, Robert Byrom and Martin Edwards topped the heats, with Joe Wood, Jr. taking the B main.

Jesse Frazier flipped over in the second heat, but was able to start the B and qualify for the A main.

Late Models Feature Winner #84 Tom Lorenz

USA Modifieds Feature Winner
#81 Danny Caldwell

It was a Full Moon Saturday Night for the USA Limited Modifieds.

Action started early as six cars piled up on the first attempt to start the race - completely blocking the track. Pole sitter Staats was able to avoid that mess, and four other cautions during the race which was eventually shortened to 11 laps. During the restarts, Wally Beaty and Jason Troutman were able to briefly challenge Staats, but he always pulled away. Taking the checkered flag by several car lengths, Staats earned his third win of the season.

He also avoided a last lap crash which piled up five cars at the bottom of turn four on the final lap.

Chris Cleveland, Troutman and Pepper Rhea Kyykendall won the heat races.

Tom Lorenz was on the outside of the front row at the 17 late models took the green flag. Polesitter Gary Scott Christian took the lead on the drop of the green flag, with Lorenz giving chase.

It has been a perfect season so far for Danny Caldwell in the USA Modifieds. He is perfect with five feature wins in the five races held so far this year. Saturday's race did not start well as pole sitter Denny Cothran spun across the track colledting two other cars. Back underway, Caldwell was quickly in the lead and never looked back. He easily flew to another win. David Hennan was second at the checkered flag with Richard McGibboney third. Danny Florence and Trent Dorman won the heat races.
