Brown Takes ASCS Sprints Summer Nationals Title at Devil's Bowl Mesquite, TX (June 16) - Brian Brown chased down Wayne Johnson and claimed victory as the ASCS Lucas Oil National Series Sprint Cars finished up the 39th Annual Summer Nationals at Devil's Bowl Speedway Saturday night. Tom Lorenz avoided a multi-car wreck on his way to victory in the late model feature. Jimmy Staats took the win in the USA limited modifieds main .
#21 Brian Brown Wayne Johnson look to be on a repeat of Friday night after moving from the second row to the runner-up spot on the first lap of the ASCS Sprints 30-lapper at Devil's Bowl. Polesitter Tony Bruce, Jr. claimed the lead, but had to battle Johnson to hold the spot. On the 13th lap in heavy traffic, Johnson got past Bruce on the back straight. The caution flag flew on the 21st lap. Lining up behind Johnson and Bruce was Danny Lasoski, Matt Covington and 14th starting Brian Brown. Lasoski got a great run on the start and quickly moved to second, than grabbed the top spot from Johnson. But Lasoski slowed and pulled to the infield after the two laps to go signal from the flagman. Brown had moved up to right behind Johnson, and took the lead as they took the white flag. He took the win by a couple car lengths over Friday night winner Johnson, with Bruce third. Covington was fourth with Jason Johnson fifth. Dustin Morgan, Logan Forler, Bruce and Aaron Reutzel won the heat races. Joshua Hodges won the B Main.
#84 Tom Lorenz Tom Lorenz picked the right line when a wreck coming out of turn four on the sixth lap of the late model feature took out Patrik Daniel and Wendall Bolden, and sent Johnny Philpot, Jr. to the back of the field. Lorenz was able to catch early leader Loni Richardson on the restart, and take the lead on the ninth lap. He pulled away ot his second late model win of the year. Mex Eddie Thomas was second with Philpot taking third. Lorenz and Bolden won the heat races.

Cody Simpson beat Jimmy Staats to turn one as the pair started on the front row of the USA Limited Modifieds feature. Simpson set the pace until the 9th lap, when he pulled out with problems. Staats took the lead and held off Jason Troutman on his way to his fourth feature win this season. Third was Jason Gore. Troutman and Steve Sickels won the heats. |
