Jeff Day Leads Racesaver Sprints to Checkered Flag at Devil's Bowl Mesquite, TX (July 3) - Jeff Day lined up on the outside of the 10th row for the Racesaver Sprints Feature at Devil's Bowl Speedway Tuesdayday night. 20 non-stop laps later, he led the field under the checkered flag. Scott Prather claimed his first street stock win. Clyde Dunn, Jr. topped the USA Modifieds. Bobby Ruffin took the USA Limited Modifieds win. Patrik Daniel won his 4th late model main of the season.
#95 Jeff Day Jeff Day did not have a very good heat race Tuesday night as the 305 Racesaver Sprints headlined the annual Devil's Bowl Independence Day Celebration. That put him on the outside of the 10th row as the green flag fell for the 20-lap feature. Chad Wilson took the early lead from the pole, with outside front row starter Dale Wester right behind. Wester took the point on the fourth lap. Day had climbed to 10th in just four circuits. As Wester and Wilson fought through lapped traffic and traded the top spot, Day moved steadily forward. Taking third on the 16th lap, he was second a lap later. Challenging Wilson for the lead on the final lap, Day went high in turns three and four to pull off the final turn and take the checkered flag. Wester, Michael Lang and Raven Culp won the heat races, with Wilson taking the Pole Dash.
#22 Scott Prather Scott Prather took his #22 to victory lane for the first time Tuesday night. Prather was able to get past early leader Jeff Stroup and stay ahead in a three way battle to the checkered flag with Wally Beaty and Steven Barr. Prather and Harry Hronas won the heat races.
#88XX Clyde Dunn, Jr.
Clyde Dunn, Jr. and Rick McCommas put on a great show as they battled at the front of the USA Modifeds field. McCommas took the lead on the tenth lap as the pair continued to race side by side towards the checkered flag. After the white flag flew, McCommas went around in turn one. That left Dunn out front for the restart as he took the win ahead of points leader Danny Caldwell and Richard McGibboney. Dunn and McCommas won the heat races.
#02X Bobby Ruffin Bobby Ruffin took the green flag for the USA Limited Modifieds 12-lapper on the outside of the fifth row. Pepper Rhea Kuykendall led the first five trips around the half-mile oval, until Jimmy Staats claimed the top spot. Ruffin was up to fourth at the halfway mark when Staats water pump broke, sending him and some other cars around in turn three. As the race resumed, Ruffin went around the outside and into the lead. Kuykendall had to settle for second with Steve Nabors third. Kuykendall, Brian Bolden and Wally Beaty won the heats.
#75 Patrik Daniel
Daniel took his fourth late model win this year, leading flag to flag. Holding off challenges from Tom Lorenz and Johnny Philpott, Daniel claimed the win, with Wendall Bolden taking second and Philpott third. Lorenz, Bolden and Loni Richardson won the heat races. |
