Edd French Takes Sprint Series of Texas Victory at Devil's Bowl
Mesquite, TX (July 21) - Edd French paced the Sprint Series of Texas feature from flag to flag on his way to victory at Devil's Bowl Speedway Saturday night.
Wendall Bolden topped the Late Models for the first time this season. Also taking their first wins of the season were Chris Cleveland in the USA Limited Modifieds and James Shaw, Jr. in the Street Stocks. Danny Caldwell claimed his seventh win in the USA Modifieds.
#17 Edd French
Edd French took off from the pole position and never looked back as he led all 15 laps of the Sprint Series of Texas feature. But coming up behind French were two fast cars.
Jerry Hammock started 11th, and claimed the fith spot on the fifth lap. He was third on the seventh lap and took second on the ninth trip around the Devil's Bowl half-mile.
#28 Wendall Bolden
Defending Late Model champion Wendall Bolden has not had a good season. Things finally came together Saturday night for his first win this year. He avoided damage on the opening lap to race three wide and take the lead. On the 11th lap he caught the back of the field.
That allow second place Max Eddie Thomas to get closer, however Bolden quickly worked past the lapped cars to take the win over Thomas and Johnny Philpot, Jr. Bolden and Thomas won the heat races.
#49 Chris Cleveland
Chris Cleveland took his first USA Limited Modifieds victory after a race long battle with Jimmy Staats. Cody Simpson led the opening laps before falling back.
Cleveland took the lead on the third lap with Staats taking second after two more trips around the track. After that it was a side by side battle on most laps.
Cleveland got a small advantage on a restart with two laps to go, but Staats had one last charge coming out of turn four on the final lap.
He was able to get even with Cleveland, but could not hold position at the bottom of the track. They touched with Cleveland taking the win by a bumper. Jason Troutman was third. Anthony McCollom, Steve Sickels and Staats won the heat races..
#2 James Shaw, Jr.
James Shaw, Jr. has run close to the front all season in the Street Stocks features. Saturday night he was able to take his first win of 2012.
Starting sixth, he took the lead on the 9th lap and took the checkered flag a couple car lengths ahead of Jeff Stroup, with David Gailley third. Stroup win the heat.
#81 Danny Caldwell
Ronnie Sigman took the lead of the USA Modifieds feature, charging away from a tight battle for second. Danny Caldwell took the runner-up spot on the fifth lap.
Trent Dorman was third. Jeff Jones and Caldwell won the heat races.

Raven Culp started on the outside ninth row, and took third on the 11th lap. He got past Hammock as the white flag flew.
French kept perfect on his line. He easily passed lapped cars to deny Hammock or Culp a shot at the lead as French flew to his first win at Devils Bowl with SST.
Rick Summers, Drew Wright and Kerry Rush won the heats, with Kenny Elwood taking the B main.
